SEVENTEEN Merchandise Design Draws Comparisons to CLOSE YOUR EYES Album Packaging

A new SEVENTEEN merchandise design has drawn comparisons online to packaging previously used for CLOSE YOUR EYES’ first mini album.

A post compared the photobook version of CLOSE YOUR EYES’ first mini album, released on April 2, 2025, with merchandise for SEVENTEEN’s 2026 fan meeting scheduled for release on October 23.

Both designs use a vintage travel-case theme featuring brown suitcase-style packaging decorated with stickers, labels and other travel-inspired details.

The comparison sparked debate over whether the designs were notably similar or simply made use of a common visual concept.

While some commenters argued that the suitcase-and-sticker motif was too widely used to claim originality, others felt the similarities were noticeable enough to warrant criticism.

Netizen Reactions

The sampled comments leaned heavily toward dismissing the copying accusation, with many arguing that vintage suitcases, travel stickers and member-name labels are common design elements. A smaller number still felt the similarities were significant.

1. There were so f*cking many comments that I went swimming back through them like a salmon, and apparently SEVENTEEN already used this in 2023. What is this?
2. Even after looking at it, I honestly don’t really see it.
3. What a relief... I was scrolling down wondering what everyone was even talking about.
4. To begin with, CLOSE YOUR EYES’ design isn’t distinctive enough to be arguing about originality. It’s basically a Pinterest-style design, so trying to claim originality over it is contradictory in itself. SEVENTEEN just got unlucky and got targeted by a clueless CLOSE YOUR EYES fan.
5. Honestly, isn’t a brown suitcase covered in stickers way too common?
6. ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ I wonder how excited they were to bring this here just so they could drag them ă…‹
7. And apparently SEVENTEEN is reusing something they already did back in 2023. Someone kept insisting even the details and the “tone and manner” were similar, but that one looks even more alike. SEVENTEEN already did the concept first, the hot stamping first, the complementary color contrast first, and member-name stickers have existed forever. This is seriously the first time I’ve seen someone insist that member-name stickers are unique. Is there even an idol group that doesn’t have them? Name stickers come out every year on gift boxes, albums, diaries — they’re one of the most common things ever. If anything, the handle makes this look even more like SEVENTEEN’s 2023 version.
8. That’s literally the kind of suitcase that’s in Animal Crossing too.
9. I checked to see how similar they actually were, but other than the outer packaging being a vintage travel case covered in stickers, the components and everything else were different. I was wondering how anyone could claim plagiarism based on such weak reasoning, but of course it turns out this started with international stans ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹
10. If it were the other way around and the earlier one looked prettier, people wouldn’t be calling it “common.” That’s HYBE’s thing — taking something and using it as-is. There are so many similarities, but people just keep saying “common, common.” SEVENTEEN has done similar-looking album jackets too, and people still make a huge fuss saying it’s common.
