RESCENE Album Buyer Data Draws Attention for Male Fans in Their 30s and 40s

RESCENE’s album buyer demographics have drawn attention online after a purchaser-distribution chart showed a strong presence of male buyers in their 30s and 40s.

The chart, shared in a Nate Pann post, breaks down album purchasers by age and gender, ranging from teenagers to buyers in their 60s and older.

The original poster said they were particularly surprised by the number of male buyers in their 30s and 40s. They explained that fans had previously pointed to RESCENE having supporters in age groups with greater spending power while discussing the group’s expected first-week album sales, but said they had not expected the demographic to be this concentrated.

The poster also said they had personally perceived RESCENE as a group with a relatively large female fan base.

The data sparked debate over what the purchaser statistics say about RESCENE’s growing fandom. Some commenters argued that older male fans may provide the group with considerable purchasing power, while others pushed back against attempts to characterize RESCENE’s broader fandom based on a single set of album-buyer statistics.

Several fans said the gender split at offline events and music-show pre-recordings appeared much more balanced, with some claiming that female fans occasionally outnumber male fans.

Others argued that regardless of age or gender, attracting fans with enough interest to purchase albums is ultimately a positive sign for the group.

Netizen Reactions

The sampled comments ranged from jokes and criticism about RESCENE attracting older male fans to supporters arguing that those fans bring strong purchasing power and that the group’s offline audiences are actually much more balanced by gender.

1. RESCENE aren’t even idols at this point, they’re basically the female version of Lim Young-woong ㅋㅋ They might as well switch to trot as soon as possible.
2. I’ve been a fan since debut, and whenever I go to offline events, the gender split has pretty much been 50-50 both then and now. I’ve never seen another group with such an even gender split from teenagers all the way up to people in their 40s and older. Groups that really take off never skew completely toward just one gender. That’s a fact. Male fans in their 30s and older definitely have spending power.
3. Men in their 40s and 50s have money. Their buying power is impressive.
4. By your own logic, if older male fans are the ones supporting them, then it has nothing to do with the popularity of the idols you guys stan so hard. Why are you so threatened?? Why are you trying so hard to keep a group that’s just starting to rise in check? ㅋ
5. Whether they’re middle-aged guys, gross older men or grandpas, if they become fans and that leads to commercials and appearances on the major networks’ variety shows, that’s a huge, huge success. Why are you so salty about it? ㅋㅋ
6. Still, isn’t it impressive that they actually managed to open those older guys’ wallets?
7. Stanning with your dad’s credit card while going on about how “female fans are where the money is” and all that crap ㅋㅋㅋ
8. Seeing Pann girls dragging them... guess RESCENE really made it, huh? ㅋㅋ
9. Fans with actual spending power are way better than brats with no money of their own who bleed their parents dry and treat them like ATMs.
10. Don’t try to stir things up based on statistics from just one site~ If you go to pre-recordings, the female-to-male ratio is either 50-50 or there are even times when there are more female fans! Having lots of fans buying albums is a good thing, if anything.
