Park Na-rae’s Former Manager Denies Most Charges at First Trial in Extortion Case

Park Na-rae’s former manager Shin denied most of the charges against her during the first trial in an ongoing extortion case.

At the September 29 hearing, Shin, who was detained and indicted on charges including joint extortion, argued that money demanded from Park represented legitimate claims such as severance pay. According to YouTube commentator Lee Jin-ho’s account of the proceedings, Shin admitted one part of the prosecution’s allegations while denying the remainder.

Lee said Shin appeared in court wearing a prison uniform with her hair tied back and spent much of the hearing taking notes without looking toward the gallery. After the hearing ended, however, she smiled as she approached family members seated behind Lee.

Another former manager, identified as Lee, also appeared in court wearing a mask and reportedly looked visibly nervous. Lee said during the proceedings that she is now working in retail after leaving her previous job following the dispute.

The conflict between Park and her former managers became public last December, when the managers filed complaints accusing Park of workplace mistreatment and other alleged illegal conduct. Park denied the allegations and filed counter-complaints involving attempted extortion and occupational embezzlement. She later halted her broadcast activities.

Netizen Reactions

The sampled comments were mixed, with some users criticizing the former managers and others questioning the media framing of their circumstances or remaining skeptical of Park Na-rae.

1. Is showing a bright smile to your family really considered “bizarre”?
2. What’s so pitiful about them? They tried to extort a celebrity for a big payout and failed. If they tried to ruin someone else’s life, they should face the punishment they deserve too. Park Na-rae and those people are all the same.
3. Why is working in retail considered some kind of tragic job?
4. This reminds me of that recording of the manager talking with her ex-boyfriend. She seriously didn’t seem normal. Park Na-rae worked so hard before finally succeeding, then left her agency because of money and ended up getting involved with a seriously strange woman...
5. I still don’t understand what Park Na-rae supposedly did that was so terribly wrong.. All these accusations have no evidence and just came from those managers... The “injection auntie” thing was obviously a serious mistake.. But plenty of celebrities apparently do things like that and just don’t get caught... Because of those managers, she had to leave all her successful shows and couldn’t work for a year... Think about how much money she lost. Who is going to compensate Park Na-rae for that?
6. Don’t be fooled. Park Na-rae is a master of media play.
7. What’s so different about being the youngest manager versus working in retail? Is it supposed to be tragic just because they’re no longer working in that industry? Most young people work because they need to make a living.
8. You're the bizarre one.
9. Putting aside whether you can’t stand looking at Park Na-rae, it’s true that the manager was f*cking vicious. They pulled tricks trying to squeeze money out of her.
10. They must have thought she was a goose that laid golden eggs and ended up doing something reckless..
