Park appeared in Episode 3 as Kim Myeong-nam, a member of the underground independence group Gugukdan who carries a complicated family secret.
Kim Myeong-nam first appears at the group’s hideout dressed in an elegant Western-style outfit that contrasts with the other members. She is revealed to be the daughter of the wealthy president of Joil Textile, a prominent pro-Japanese collaborator who was awarded the title of marquis.
Despite her father’s background, Myeong-nam secretly provides financial support to Gugukdan. After giving money to help wanted member Han Cheol-ryong remain in hiding, she explains that supporting the group is one way she hopes to make up for being unable to personally stand against her father.
She later has a brief first encounter with Lee Ga-kyeong, played by Kim Yoo-jung, who remarks that Myeong-nam is “as pretty as an actress.”
Park Jung-yeon said it was meaningful to participate in a drama depicting people fighting for independence during the dark period of Japanese colonial rule.
Her agency, SALT Entertainment, added that Myeong-nam will struggle with feelings of guilt toward her fellow resistance members because of her father’s actions, while becoming increasingly involved with the independence movement.
Episode 3 of 100 Days of Deception recorded an average nationwide rating of 7.0 percent and 7.5 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area, according to Nielsen Korea. The episode ranked first in its time slot among cable and general programming channels.
