During a recent episode, Kim Yeon-koung brought up Kian84’s hygiene while discussing an incident in which he passed gas in front of several people.
“He hadn’t changed his underwear for three days at that point. I checked,” Kim said.
The conversation later turned to cleanliness in the military. When Kim asked whether soldiers were required to wash regularly, Dex responded that failing to maintain hygiene could result in disciplinary issues.
Kian84 explained that repeatedly being told to wash during his military service contributed to a sense of resistance after returning to civilian life.
Kim Yeon-koung also questioned why he would lie down on a bed and use a pillow while still sweaty. Kian84 jokingly pushed back, saying reminders to wash brought back memories of military superiors ordering him to do so.
He clarified that he does wash, but said he prefers to do it when he personally feels like it.
The scenes sparked criticism online, particularly because Kian’s Bizarre B&B involves cast members and guests living together in a shared accommodation. Some viewers argued that habits such as lying on beds while sweaty or going several days without changing underwear affect the people sharing the space.
Others defended Kian84, pointing out that his unconventional and unfiltered lifestyle has long been part of his television persona. Some viewers also argued that despite his personal hygiene habits, he has shown considerable effort in cleaning the guesthouse, doing guests’ laundry and looking after visitors during the program.
Netizen Reactions
The sampled comments leaned critical of Kian84’s hygiene and stubbornness, although several users defended him and argued that the recent coverage was disproportionately focused on habits viewers have known about for years
1. His stubbornness is strong as hell. It really hit me again like, ah, he was always like this. People just romanticized him way too much.
2. Is he really the kind of person who can’t even accept basic advice when someone gives it to him;;
3. Was it the first day? I saw him blowing his nose into a towel and immediately turned it off.
4. That’s what people who don’t care about anyone but themselves are like. The underwear isn’t even the only problem. If you don’t wash for two days, even with clothes on, the smell of sweat and poop starts wafting up, and the people beside and behind you have to smell it.
5. I’m a woman. I liked Kian when he first started appearing on TV, but I don’t anymore. He seems incredibly stubborn and just lives however he wants. He’s messy and dirty.
6. I heard he was a total screw-up when he served as a conscripted police officer ㅋㅋㅋ You can practically imagine what he was like at school too. This feels like some kind of compensation mentality. People used to criticize his behavior constantly, but now that he’s successful and nobody can really tell him what to do, he acts however he wants and tries even harder to justify and glorify those habits—like everyone who criticized him before was wrong and he was right.
7. He was always like this, and that was actually part of why people liked him. Sure, he doesn’t wash himself much, but even when he was sick, he stepped up to hand-wash the guests’ laundry and clean. He genuinely cared about the guests, kept thinking about what they needed and discussing things, and everyone who stayed there left with unforgettable memories. Why is everyone suddenly making such a fuss? ㅋㅋ
8. Did he get on reporters’ bad side or something?? Similar articles have been flooding the feeds for days. Is there anyone in Korea who doesn’t already know what Kian is like?? Why act like this is suddenly new? Dex was popular with the women, Yeon-koung was amazing at communal living, Junho quietly worked behind the scenes, and Kazuha adjusted and grew even though it was her first time. Yet you can barely find articles about any of that. Instead, it’s days of “Kian is dirty” and “Kian has bad hygiene.” Reporter, did you seriously not know?? We already did. I enjoyed Kian’s Bizarre B&B. Is that really the only thing you saw worth writing about?? Leave Kian alone for a bit and write some actual articles.
9. He might be a little dirty, but Kian is still the most watchable one. I can’t stand other celebrities showing off their houses, bragging about money and doing staged stuff.
10. I watched it with my kid because they said he was really funny, but it was so dirty I couldn’t keep watching. It feels like he confuses being natural and easygoing with being filthy. This seriously crossed the line by a mile. How on earth was he raised????
