Actress Cha Ye-ryun’s agency has denied school bullying allegations that surfaced after an anonymous online post accused a female actress born in 1985 of violence during her middle school years.

The original post, uploaded on October 29, was written by an individual identified as A, who claimed that an actress referred to as “C” had been a well-known delinquent and school bully while attending Junggye Middle School. The poster alleged that C regularly harassed them at school and in nearby buildings and claimed that some incidents escalated to physical assault.

A further alleged that they suffered a ruptured eardrum and facial swelling after being struck and said the experience continues to affect them decades later. The poster also expressed distress over seeing the actress appear on television and YouTube with what they described as an image of a good wife, mother and skilled cook.

Although the original post did not name the actress, details including her birth year and school led online users to speculate that the allegations concerned Cha Ye-ryun.

Cha Ye-ryun’s agency HB Entertainment subsequently denied the claims, stating that after checking the allegations, they were “groundless.”

The original poster had said that if the actress denied the allegations, they would provide additional evidence and testimony from former classmates. At this stage, the allegations remain disputed, and no independent finding establishing that the alleged school violence occurred has been made public.

Netizen Reactions

The sampled comments were notably cautious rather than uniformly accusatory. Several commenters argued that people should wait for additional evidence before condemning the actress, while others pointed out how difficult it would be for someone to retain physical evidence of school bullying from decades ago.

1. I really wish people wouldn’t rush to condemn someone before any fact-checking comes out.
2. If an exposé like that is true, I can understand why the person would feel wronged, but I wish they’d post evidence first... Is uploading a graduation album photo and suddenly writing, “This person did this,” supposed to be enough? If it’s a lie, the poster can just delete everything and disappear, but the person being accused could be stuck with that label forever no matter how much they deny it.
3. This is such a difficult issue. It doesn’t seem like it would be easy to preserve evidence while you’re being bullied... When you’re a kid going through something like that, it’s hard to even think that you should be gathering evidence.
4. I saw that they denied it right away, but with allegations this serious, you’d usually expect testimony from a few former classmates to come out.
5. I’d want to upload evidence too if I had any. But how are you supposed to have evidence that you were hit in fourth grade..... Ugh, and now she’s had three kids and is pretending to be some f*cking wise mother and good wife.
6. Where would you even find evidence from back then? It wasn’t an era when things like this were being recorded in school records.
7. If there’s nothing proving it yet, shouldn’t we just wait and see for now? Can’t people wait until something actually comes out before cursing someone out? Do you have somewhere else to be? After seeing so many cases like this, have people seriously learned nothing? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Or do they just have no intention of learning? If you don’t want to learn, what gives you the right to run your mouth?
8. Was there even such a thing as evidence from that time...? It’s not like schools were formally issuing school-violence disciplinary records back then... ㅠㅠ
9. But seriously, how could there be evidence? How was someone supposed to know that the person bullying them back then would become famous years later and think to collect evidence at the time?
10. 1. If there’s no evidence, then it’s a lie. Who are they trying to bury this time?
