Ayaka Miyoshi’s Past Comment About Bathing With Her Father Until Age 20 Resurfaces in Korea

Japanese actress Ayaka Miyoshi is drawing renewed attention in Korea after a past comment about her unusually close relationship with her father resurfaced online.

In a video from a previous Japanese variety-show appearance, Miyoshi said she and her father were close enough to walk arm-in-arm “like a couple.” When asked whether she had bathed together with her father until age 20, Miyoshi replied that they had indeed continued doing so until she was 20.

Miyoshi added that they no longer bathe together because her father now feels embarrassed, but said she still sometimes enters the bathroom to wash his hair.

The old remarks have resurfaced in Korea as Miyoshi receives attention for her role as Kaneko in the recently released crime film Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub. The character is described as the designer of a global gambling operation backed by a yakuza organization.

The report also noted that the film reached No. 1 at the box office six days after its release and had recorded a cumulative audience of 960,000 as of October 1.

Netizen Reactions

The sampled comments were largely shocked or critical of Miyoshi’s remarks, although a few users questioned why nudity between family members should automatically be treated as unusual or criticized the article itself for resurfacing the story.

1. Once a child starts elementary school, the dad should step back right away.
2. I was embarrassed just reading this and could barely get through it. You wouldn’t even see something like this in adult manga. As expected, the blood of that so-called “sex-advanced nation” really runs deep. I don’t even want to think about it again. It gives me chills.
3. Looks like the movie must be struggling ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ They’re really resorting to this kind of pointless marketing ã…‹
4. This just doesn’t fit Korean sensibilities.
5. That's insane.
6. Japan, that so-called “sex-advanced country” that always manages to go beyond whatever you imagine, seems to have way too many sexual customs and bizarre cultural attitudes that are hard to understand.
7. In Europe, entire families go to nude beaches together. What’s such a big deal about seeing a naked body?
8. Separate from all this, I thought the nudity in the movie felt completely random and unnecessary. She supposedly plays the designer of a global gambling operation, but she didn’t feel remotely like an important character such as Madame Jeong from Tazza... It just felt like she was brought in for the nude scene and to increase the percentage of female cast members, which was disappointing.
9. Come on, even being close as father and daughter has to have some limits. It makes my stomach turn.
10. Did you translate this properly??? Surely it was age 2, not 20 ã… ã… ã… ã…  Are you kidding me?
