The cast lineup revealed so far for Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling has drawn attention online.
According to the post, Byun Woo-seok will play protagonist Sung Jin-woo, while Han So-hee has been cast as Cha Hae-in. Kang You-seok will play Yoo Jin-ho, Cha Woo-min will portray Baruka, Lee Sung-min will play Go Gun-hee, Rain will appear as Baek Yoon-ho, Lee Hong-nae as Kang Tae-shik, Sung Joon as Woo Jin-chul, Kim Si-a as Han Song-yi, and Choi Myung-bin as Sung Jin-ah.
Kang Mi-na and Bae Seong-woo have also joined the cast, though their roles have not yet been revealed in the post. Ha Jung-woo is listed for a special appearance as Hwang Dong-su.
Solo Leveling originated as a web novel before being adapted into a webtoon and anime series. The newly revealed live-action lineup prompted considerable skepticism among commenters, with many focusing on whether the cast and production would be able to convincingly handle the story’s heavy emphasis on its male lead and fantasy action.
Netizen Reactions
The sampled comments were largely skeptical and disappointed, with several users questioning the lead casting and repeatedly comparing the project to the live-action adaptation of Omniscient Reader.
1. I really hope the male lead does a good job, sigh....
2. Byun Woo-seok really needs to pull this off... This is a story where the male lead carries basically everything, seriously.
3. This is a story completely carried by the male lead..... There are so many action scenes too, and they’re really casting this actor..?...
4. This is reminding me of the Omniscient Reader movie... heh..
5. As a fantasy novel fan, it just feels like what was bound to happen has finally happened... They really learned nothing from the Omniscient Reader movie.
6. I was excited at first, but it’s starting to smell more and more like Omniscient Reader... I had such high hopes for that movie, and the original was a legendary masterpiece, so how it turned out is honestly a little traumatizing...
7. I’m losing my mind. Seriously, if you know you can’t pull it off, have some conscience and bow out on your own...
8. With Byun Woo-seok and Han So-hee, I can already see the Omniscient Reader movie ending playing out again. Then who’s going to do the acting? ㅋㅋㅋ
9. Why are they even making this live action... No matter how well they do it, the fantasy action is bound to get nerfed... Just hurry up with more of the anime instead ㅠㅠ
10. The disappointing casting isn’t limited to just the male lead... It’s getting harder and harder to hold onto any expectations.
