Lee Seung-gi’s father-in-law, identified by the surname Lee, has been sentenced to prison in a stock manipulation case involving Kosdaq-listed company Quantapia.
On September 29, the Seoul Southern District Court’s 15th Criminal Division sentenced Lee to three years and six months in prison, a fine of 400 million won, and an additional forfeiture order of 125.55 million won for violations including the Capital Markets Act.
Lee was prosecuted on allegations that he manipulated Quantapia’s stock price to obtain illicit profits. In explaining the sentence, the court said he had participated in a similar offense despite previously being punished for the same type of crime and also cited unfavorable post-offense circumstances, including the destruction of documents.
Lee had been standing trial while out on bail but was immediately taken into custody following the prison sentence.
Lee Seung-gi married actress Lee Da-in in April 2023. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in February 2024 and a son in July 2026.
Lee Seung-gi previously addressed the controversy surrounding his wife’s family, saying that trust within the family had been damaged beyond repair and that he and Lee Da-in had decided, after considerable discussion, to cut ties with her family.
Netizen Reactions
The sampled comments were overwhelmingly critical, with many users arguing that the sentence was too short while others discussed the continued impact of Lee Da-in’s family controversies on Lee Seung-gi’s public image.
