Kim Min-guk drew attention online after giving an exaggerated, joking response to RESCENE member Won-i revealing that she had wanted to marry him when she was younger.
During MBC’s Asian Games promotional content 일타강사 리센느, released on September 21, Won-i told Kim Min-guk’s father, broadcaster Kim Sung-joo, that she had wanted to marry Min-guk as a child. Won-i and Min-guk were both born in 2004. Kim Sung-joo jokingly responded, “Min-guk has become a troublemaker these days. He barely even comes home anymore.”
After seeing the clip, Kim Min-guk posted a lengthy theatrical response on social media the following day. He began, “That means you can’t take back what you said now,” before joking, “A dream you had when you were young? That’s fine. They say habits from age three last until eighty, don’t they? A person’s dreams don’t disappear that easily.”
He continued the joke by writing, “Future relationships? It doesn’t matter. If I look at another woman, I’ll pluck out my own eyes.” He added, “Our side has decided that I’ll be the one marrying into her family. Living with the in-laws? No problem.” Min-guk then jokingly announced plans for a wedding, writing, “I’m thinking of holding the ceremony around this time next year. I should start looking at wedding venues.”
Min-guk also jokingly apologized to the “many women” who had wanted him before thanking Won-i for being brave enough to speak up. He later posted a screenshot of his father calling him a troublemaker and wrote, “Remember, everyone. The biggest enemy is always within. Trust no one. Foolish me—I became the nation’s troublemaker thanks to my father.” He eventually clarified that the entire situation was a joke.
Kim Min-guk became widely known through the MBC variety show Dad! Where Are We Going? and is currently studying film at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
