KBS’ House Husband 2 Criticized for Infidelity-Themed Storyline Involving Park Seo-jin’s Mother

KBS 2TV’s House Husband Season 2 has drawn criticism over a storyline that encouraged viewers to suspect Park Seo-jin’s mother of having an affair before ultimately revealing that she had secretly been learning golf.

On the September 19 broadcast, Park Seo-jin’s family became suspicious after his mother unexpectedly dressed up, put on makeup, and went out without explaining where she was going. Park Seo-jin’s father said that although he trusted his wife, comments from people around him gradually made him uncertain, while Park Seo-jin’s younger sibling suggested following her to find out what she was doing.

The family eventually followed her to a golf driving range, where she was seen practicing her swing. Park Seo-jin questioned why she had not told the family, while his mother explained that her husband normally refused when she suggested exercising together, so she wanted to learn golf by herself first and, if she enjoyed it, gradually persuade him to join her.

The controversy centered less on the eventual reveal and more on how the program promoted the storyline beforehand. A preview released the previous week emphasized Park Seo-jin’s mother dressing differently, secretly going out, and her family following her, creating the impression that they suspected her of infidelity.

Despite criticism of the teaser’s framing, the segment aired without significant changes. Although the broadcast ultimately revealed that Park Seo-jin’s mother was simply learning golf, criticism continued over the decision to use suspicions of an affair as a dramatic setup for the reveal.

Netizen Reactions

The sampled Nate News comments were largely critical of the program’s increasingly dramatic setups, with several viewers arguing that the family storyline had become too forced.

1. Park Seo-jin, please stop appearing on House Husband already~ It’s getting disgusting now~ Even his parents have gone way too far~ I don’t like how they’ve lost what made them appealing in the beginning.
2. Why do we have to watch a family like this on a public broadcaster.... What a waste of money. Get them off the show.
3. They need to know when to stop. The setup is way too forced and it’s boring now. At first it felt natural and nice, but now that they’ve run out of material, they’re doing all kinds of things.
4. When you overdo things, problems are bound to happen... It means it’s about time for them to stop appearing on the show...
5. Is this even fun?? House Husband, Boss in the Mirror, Same Bed, Different Dreams, Running Man, I Live Alone ㅋㅋ Seriously, cancel these staged shows. YouTube is way more entertaining.
6. You just have to watch this show like it’s a drama.
7. Selling out the family with forced scandals and staged storylines. If there’s nothing left to show, just leave the program. First it was the younger sibling, and now even the parents...
8. They’re just trying to bait people. I’m tired of them constantly doing this kind of thing with trot singers too.
9. At this point, Park Seo-jin should be protecting his family from this kind of exposure and standing up for them himself, but he’s gotten so money-hungry that he’s just turning a blind eye.
10. Cancel garbage programs like this. Instead of airing stuff like this, just play the national anthem. Why are they even broadcasting this kind of thing on a major network?
