A recent Nate Pann post highlighted a trivia moment involving singer Choi Yena after she correctly answered a general-knowledge question about Hangul.
In the captured scene, Yena was asked which Korean linguist gave Korea’s native writing system the name “Hangul.” She answered Ju Si-gyeong, which was shown as the correct response.
The original poster said they were surprised she knew the answer, adding that they thought relatively few idols would be able to answer it and that the moment made them see Yena in a new light.
The comments quickly turned into an argument over how difficult the question actually was. Some users argued that it was basic school-level knowledge, while others said most people would struggle to answer it immediately. A few commenters also questioned whether the quiz segment had been prepared in advance.
Netizen Reactions
The sampled comments were mixed and argumentative, with users disagreeing over whether Yena’s answer was genuinely impressive, basic common knowledge, or possibly part of a prearranged quiz segment.
1. It was obviously all set up ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Does that even make sense? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
2. They know perfectly well that 99 out of 100 people wouldn’t be able to answer a question like that, so the fact that they even asked it means.... they already gave her the answer and it was a rigged game ;;;; It’s way too obvious.
3. I guarantee that if you asked people that question on the spot, more than half of people in Korea—regardless of age—wouldn’t be able to answer it.
4. Isn’t that something you learn around middle school? Why are we setting the bar for being good at studying this low? ㅋㅋㅋ
5. But watching it, Yena was suddenly the only one who got an actual general knowledge question ㅋㅋㅋㅋ The type of question was completely different ㅋㅋㅋㅋ In a fast paced game like that, the earlier questions were so obvious they barely even counted as trivia, so I could totally see someone getting caught up in the moment and blurting out “King Sejong” without thinking.
6. They don’t know the answer because they’re bad at studying and dumb themselves, so now they’re whining at Choi Yena like, “It was totally rigged, blahhh!!” ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Pann girls really never disappoint.
7. You need to get rid of this mindset that if you can’t answer something ㅋㅋㅋ then nobody else should know it either~~ I feel like people who weren’t top students probably all think like that ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
8. When people hear “Ju Si-gyeong,” they go, “Oh, I know him!!!” but there probably aren’t that many people who could immediately come up with the answer from that question alone.. The questions before Yena’s were really easy, so I can see people getting caught up in the flow and blurting out “King Sejong” without even realizing it.
9. Didn’t we learn that in elementary school? I even read a book about Ju Si-gyeong when I was in elementary school.
10. That’s common knowledge. You don’t even need to study for it. Looking at these comments, the level here is really something... Stop sitting on Pann all day and read a book.
